Upload an Existing Video to Panopto
If you prefer to use other software to make screencast recordings or hope to incorporate PDFs and other file types into a Panopto video, you may circumvent the Panopto Recorder entirely. This can also be a useful way to store Zoom recordings that you want to reuse for future class sessions or trainings over time.
The “Build a Session” allows you to batch upload multiple files or you can upload individual files.
To Upload an Individual Recording
- Log in to Panopto by going to http://panopto.oxy.edu or open the Panopto tool from the Moodle text editor and select “Upload.”
- Within the Panopto site, click the big green "Create" button to the left of the search bar.
- From the drop down menu select "Upload media."
- From the Add Files To drop down. choose the folder assigned to your Moodle course page. It should be the same name of your course.
- After you’ve selected which folder you want to upload to, you can upload files from your computer by dragging them into the "Choose video or audio files" area or by clicking and selecting file(s) from your computer.
- The audio or video will begin uploading.
- While the video is uploading you can edit the video title.
- Once the video is uploaded it will begin processing. Once it has reached this stage you can exit the upload screen.
- Once you return to the course folder in Panopto, the new audio or video file will show the processing status and will become available for all students to view once complete. At this time, if desired, you can edit the video description under the video "Settings" tab
Batch upload with “Build a Session”
Log in to Panopto by going to panopto.oxy.edu.
At the top center, click the big green "Create" button next to the search bar.
From the drop down menu select “Build a Session.”
Choose a name for your session and a description should you choose to add one, then click Create.
The editor will now open in Build a session mode, starting with adding your Primary video or audio. This is usually video or audio of the presenter and appears on the upper left side of the viewer. Add video or audio by dragging and dropping the file here, or click to open a file explorer and choose the file from your computer.
Once you have added Primary video, you will be given the option to Drop another audio video or file on the right side or Drop a secondary video or powerpoint file on the left side. Secondary videos appear on the right side of the viewer and usually contain the content that is being presented.
Once the files are uploaded and done processing, the video can be edited like any other video. You may trim sections, add powerpoint slides, or the table of contents.
When your video is finished, select Publish in the top right corner. It may take some time for edits to process before the video is available.
