Legacy: How to connect to websites on sites.oxy.edu
About: Some HTML / CSS websites are hosted on our web server, sites.oxy.edu. Connecting to the server to access or update files requires mapping the network drive (on-campus access) or connecting via 2x or ftps (off-campus access), in conjunction with using a text editor or other software for editing the HTML website. ITS maintains the web server but does not maintain or edit content on the individual websites. The connection methods below are not particularly easy to use and finding software to edit the site is tricky. Connecting via campus network drive On an Oxy-issued PC computer (on-campus only): Log in on your campus windows machine Open My Computer Scroll down to find the T: drive Contact helpdesk@oxy.edu if you do not see the T: drive Using a Mac (on-campus only) Open a Finder window. Click Go –> Connect to Server or press Command-K on the keyboard. In the Server Address field, type smb://websrv.oxynet.oxy.edu/sites/USERNAME and replace USERNAME with the correct Oxy username. Click the + button to save the server address to the Favorite Servers list. Click the Connect button. Connect via ftps: Once connected, download, update, and re-upload the file(s) that needs to be updated. All file updates should be done using a plain text editor (examples include Notepad on Windows or TextEdit or download something like TextWrangler for use on the Mac, or use Brackets). This method works best for sites that are already built out and don’t have complex navigation, or don’t need updates to the navigation.
