Banner 9 - Getting Started
Instructions for accessing and using Banner 9. Logging On Logging on works as it did before. ITS has simply updated the current Banner icon so that it will now open the new interface. If you have a desktop icon, it should be updated automatically when the Parallels software next synchronizes on your computer. As a reminder, when the logon page appears, you will use your Oxynet password, not your Banner password. It is the same method currently used to log on to myOxy: Note: Banner 9 will not be available using wireless connections and certain on-campus locations, unless you are going through Parallels. To ensure you can get in (and to connect from off-campus), use Parallels to connect. Application Navigator Once logged on, you will be presented with the main welcome page, known as the Application Navigator. A simple way to get started is simply to type your form name directly into “Welcome”, and you can also search for forms and processes there. Here is what it looks like: Security time-out Banner now has a built-in time-out after 30 minutes’ inactivity for best security; if you come back before 30 minutes, you have the option of extending your session. Connecting directly to the Banner database For those of you who use Access, SQL*Plus, SQL*Developer, or are Argos developers, for connections directly to the Banner database you do still need to use your Banner password. Documentation We are unpacking the Banner 9 functional documentation. It will be located here and we’ll confirm when it’s available: R:\BANNER_DOC\Banner 9 Admin

Configure SQL Developer
This guide will show you how to configure the SQL Developer application which you have setup by running R:\Install\SQLdeveloper\goSQLDev.cmd from your OXY PC. Once SQL Developer has been setup you just need to follow these steps to connect it to the OXY Oracle database. There should be a folder called “SQL Developer” in L:\MDB-IRAP. If you can not access this folder you will want to contact ISG to grant you access. Copy this to your C: drive. Run the sqldeveloper.exe, it may ask you to download Java plugins, go ahead and do that. Then set up a connection to the database by following these steps: How to Convert an ADP File to MDB ADP and MDB files are two types of database files created by Microsoft Access 97, 2000, 2002 and 2003. ADP files are the SQL data files, while MDB files contain Access project information about the set of ADP files that are contained within the Access project. If you have an ADP file and Microsoft Access on hand, you can convert the ADP file to an MDB file through a simple Access operation. Open Microsoft Access. Click “File,” then click “Open,” then click on the ADP file that you want to convert. Click “File,” then click “Share” then click the “Save Database As” button. Select the “Access Database” file type, then type in the name you want the MDB file to have. Click the “Save” button and the MDB file is created and saved to the computer. An example of parameters that need to be set.

Accessing Banner
ITS is making a change to the way that authorized staff will access Banner Admin Pages. From on-campus you should now go directly to the Banner URL rather than from Parallels Remote Application Server (RAS). Banner Admin PROD URL: https://banner.oxy.edu/ This has the advantage of utilizing any ‘saved’ MFA session already in your browser. If you need to run Banner while you are off-campus, you should continue to use Parallels RAS, or first connect to the Oxy Virtual Private Network (VPN). For Banner testing instances, you will need to go to them directly as well: Banner Admin ADVTEST: https://banner-advtest.oxy.edu Banner Admin TEST: https://banner-test.oxy.edu Banner Admin UPGD: https://banner-upgd.oxy.edu
