Remove File Sharing Programs
Follow the steps below to remove P2P file-sharing software from your computer. The best way to avoid potential copyright violations (and, potentially, thousands of dollars of fines through the United States judicial system) is to remove all peer-to-peer file-sharing programs from your computer. Also, you should check the settings on any P2P applications installed on your computer to make sure they are not set to share by default. Directions for removing P2P software Windows Computers Open Programs and Features by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking Programs, and then clicking Programs and Features. Select a program, and then click Uninstall. Some programs include the option to change or repair the program in addition to uninstalling it, but many simply offer the option to uninstall. To change a program, click Change or Repair. Administrator permission required If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation. Apple Computers Quit all file-sharing programs. Locate the folder containing the P2P software that you want to remove. It is usually in the Applications folder. Double-click the P2P program's folder to examine its contents. Some Macintosh-compatible P2P programs come with an "uninstall" program. If you see an "Uninstall" or "Uninstaller" program, run it to remove the P2P software. If you do not see such a program, go back to the Applications folder, and move the P2P program's folder into the trash. Empty your computer's trash folder. Go to the Apple menu and select Restart to reboot your computer. If you have any questions, please contact ITS Help Desk at 323-259-2880

To locate the MAC Address of your Xbox, follow these steps: Go to My Xbox in the Xbox Dashboard and select System Settings. Click Network Settings, Configure Network. Select Advanced Settings from the Additional Settings tab, then select Alternate Mac Address. At the bottom of this screen you’ll see a heading called Wired MAC. To locate the MAC Address of your Playstation, follow these steps: Turn on your Playstation 4 without any disk in the drive and wait for the menu to pop up. Navigate to the “Settings” icon. Running Regular MacOS and iOS Updates
When ITS issues a Mac computer to faculty or staff, the default settings will download important security updates in the background. Occasionally, you’ll be prompted to install the updates and restart, with the option to restart Now, Tonight, or Later. While it can be disruptive to restart, its important to the security of your data and functioning of your device to make the time to restart your computer. How to find out your current OS version and whether you are up to date: MacOS: Apple Menu → About this Mac → Software Update You'll see a prompt to update to the newest OS (Ventura); if you want to wait to update to Ventura and just make sure your current OS is up to date, select "More Info..." Thinking of upgrading to Ventura but not sure? Learn more from Apple. Note in Ventura, software update can be found under "System Settings -> General -> Software Update" iOS: Settings → General → Software Update (will require 50% battery power or power source to install)

How do I clear my browser cache?
Some common log in errors can be addressed by clearing the data stored in your browser, trying a different browser, or trying a private or incognito browsing session. Most browsers have options to delete all cookies and cached data (sometimes with an option to specify the timeframe, such as from the last hour or week), or just the cookies from a specific site or web domain. Some but not all browsers give you the option to also specify whether you're clearing saved passwords, cookies or caches individually, but others don't. If you've just now encountered a problem with a site, sometimes the easier (less clicks) route is to delete cache and cookies from all websites visited over the last hour if the browser offers that option, though be aware it may not always fix the problem - some problems require you to delete all cookies (often noted as "everything" or "for all time"). In some browsers, to minimize disruption to your browsing, you can delete only cookies specific domain(s) or website(s). If you'd like to try clearing your browser data, try the following instructions: Chrome Go to Google's instruction page. To delete only oxy.edu cookies follow the instructions under the "Delete Specific Instructions" section. When you search for the website's name, enter oxy.edu. Please note: if you have pending updates for Chrome, where the instructions note a More (three dots) button, you'll instead see a colored up-arrow icon. SAFARI: Follow these instructions from Apple to clear cookies in Safari (use the drop down on that page to choose instructions for your operating system version). Once you've chosen Manage Website data, search oxy.edu to show only cookies related to oxy.edu, click on the oxy.edu entry in the list, and choose Remove (not remove all). This will clear cookies and site data for all sites related to oxy.edu (including any oxy.edu passwords saved in your browser), and close all open tabs related to Oxy.edu sites. MICROSOFT EDGE: Follow these instructions for Edge from Microsoft. When choosing what to clear, select at least Cookies and saved website data, and Cached data and files. FIREFOX: Follow these instructions for Firefox from Mozilla. You should see a list of sites ending with .oxy.edu; click Clear cookies and site data. This will clear cookies and site data for all sites related to oxy.edu (including any oxy.edu passwords saved in your browser). You may also need to clear your web cache by following these instructions for clearing just your web cache in Firefox.
